I have been making waffles for about 15 years now. I wanted something every morning with my coffee so I make a batch every other Sunday and freeze them. Then just toss them in the toaster when I need one. I have only gone through six waffle makers of various types and expense. I prefer the Belgian size and pattern. The VillaWare waffle maker is my second favorite. My favorite does two at a time...
First, you'll want to do a batch to "clean" the nonstick plates. The instructions suggest this as well. I just made a batch of waffles from a package of ready mix and tossed them out.
It heats up and cooks fairly quickly. The temp is easy to adjust by turning the dial located right in front. On/off is in the middle of the dial. It beeps when ready and done. The biggest issue with waffle makers is how long they last. Over time the heating elements tend to wear down - we'll see.
It has a drip pan that makes it easier to clean up but my waffle mix is thick and rarely drips from overfill. Where the mess comes from is what drops when bringing the mix to the waffle maker. But with the smooth metal surface you just wipe it off.
Flipping helps spread the mix around more and helps it cook evenly. The unit itself is very light but the design makes it hard to tip over. It has a great handle that makes it easy to open and flip the waffle maker but it does require a lot more space than your conventional waffle maker for both using and storing it.
The one problem with the VillaWare waffle maker is the short cord. The space under our cabinets is too low to open this up. So it needs to be pulled away from the cabinets which limits where we can use this based on electrical outlet locations.
Overall, this is a great waffle maker that heats up and cooks fairly quickly and is easy to use and cleanup. Looks great too!
